A fresh shower curtain makeover can take your bathroom vibe from boring to super interesting. Here's how...
Yes, even your bathroom has a personality. Take our Design Vibe Quiz to determine what vibe to shop. Some people are minimalists in their design style, other are bold; some lean towards colorful abstract designs, others humorous patterns or phrases. Fun, colorful patterns can be hard to resist, but they’re not always the best choice for a bathroom. A pristine white curtain gives a space a fresh, high-end look and will never go out of style. A thoughtful mix of textures and patterns always looks more interesting and inviting.
It's a little strange to bring a measuring tape into the bathroom - but you'll need to measure before you buy a shower curtain. Buying one that's too short or not wide enough means a daily flood on the floor. Measure the full width of the space the shower curtain will cover, and height up to 3” less than where you imagine your rod will be. Note: typically rods are installed between 75-77” off the floor. A standard showercurtain measures 70 x 72", although some curtains are larger to make things easily customizable. Yes, just like when a pair of pants are too long - you can easily tailor the bottom of a shower curtain if you don’t need the extra fabric. Or leave it and consider adding a hook to the side of wall so your shower curtain can drape elegantly to the floor.
Water stains, soap scum, and mildew - oh my! Even though the main purpose of a shower is cleanliness - shower curtains and liners are prone to gross build up. How often should you clean your shower curtain? Probably more often than you are!
There are two suggested methods to cleaning your shower curtain. One involves hand-washing and nobody is going to do that so let's skip to the next one - machine washing. This comes from Reader's Digest:
Clean those ugly mildew stains off your plastic shower curtain by putting it and a couple of soiled towels in your washing machine. Add 1/2 cup laundry detergent and 1/2 cup baking soda to the load, and wash it in warm water on your machine's regular cycle. Add 1 cup white vinegar to the first rinse.
Getting into a monthly cleaning routine is highly recommended and super easy regardless of the material.
Don't forget to be bold - have fun - and maybe a little inappropriate. Bathroom humor goes a long way...in the bathroom!
