Want a vibrant and snazzy approach to holiday decor? Press your nose against the windows of your local hotel or inn - or simply walk into their lobby, to experience holiday decor that will inspire you to spruce up your eclectic twinkling light display.
Holidays are the perfect time of year to enjoy the festive decorations of hotels across the country, as they have the staff (and the budget!) to transform their space into extravagant winter wonderlands - regardless of the temperature outside.
If a stay isn't in your budget, you can still enjoy these gorgeous buildings by visiting their lobbies and other public spaces that look like highly curated winter fairyland. They are more like works of art. Think large, intricately decorated holiday trees and massive gingerbread houses.
We have highlighted a few hotels around the world that are famously traditional and others that are insanely stylish by featuring regal color palettes.
The Ritz London is putting on exactly what you'd expect from the elegant property. Stunning. Fancy. And extremely London-esque. Whether you are looking for the perfect romantic and luxurious Christmas break for two or a magical family experience, you will truly receive a wonderfully warm welcome and a breath-taking seasonal atmosphere. The restaurant, featuring ceiling frescoes, marble columns and an elaborate garland chandelier, was even featured on the beloved TV drama Downton Abbey.
In the United States' capital, the elegant Willard InterContinental's lobby Christmas tree is decked out with the entire line of White House Christmas ornaments. Afternoon Tea is served in the hotel's Peacock Alley, and later, right off the lobby, the historic Round Robin Bar will be serving up seasonal cocktails such as the Jingle Bell Julep. As an added treat, local choral and vocal ensembles give free performances in the lobby nightly through December. And don't forget to stop by the history gallery, located just off the lobby. Inside, you’ll find photos, newspaper clippings and artifacts from the nearly 200 years the luxury hotel has been in business.
The lobby of The Roosevelt, the124-year-old hotel spans a block, the length of which is positively bursting with Christmas. It's been lined with 78 birch trees that glitter with lights from bow-bedecked planters, and 46 Christmas trees dusted with fake snow and shimmering with red and gold ornaments. There are also close to 400 bows and 1,600 feet of lighted garland — and that's not including the other decorations throughout the hotel. Every day throughout the month of December, crowds shuffle in and out throughout the day, dressing up in their Christmas card best to snap family photos and pictures with friends. If they stop in at noon, they can catch local school choirs signing carols.
Warm and cozy means something entirely different at the Montage Laguna Beach Hotel, offering Christmas festivities against a stunning Pacific Ocean backdrop. A 35-foot tree decked out on the Pacific Lawn sets the tone for a luxurious California Christmas. Gingerbread decorating workshops, Santa Claus tuck-ins and holiday stocking deliveries are all festive activities offered throughout the season.
